Book lovers are experiencing a new lease of literary life in the newly formed Auckland Super City.
Library services were unified across the region by Auckland Council on November 1.
That saw an end to rules stopping people borrowing books outside their home city or district.
The move has proved
a hit with library users, who are queuing up to take advantage of their new Auckland-wide book borrowing rights.
Auckland Council's libraries manager Allison Dobbie says there has been a sharp increase in new membership requests and borrowing since November 1.
"Libraries have been extremely busy with customers from around the region enjoying the new offers."
Customers will get the books they put on hold quicker now that libraries have access to the collections all around Auckland, she says.
"Requests for items are being filled more quickly.
"Those who have been 38th on a wait list of 40 people may now find they are near the top of the list."
