KEY POINTS:
TV3 presenter James Coleman has announced he is leaving breakfast television show Sunrise, effective immediately.
Coleman has been a co-presenter on the show, alongside Carly Flynn, since it was first broadcast in October 2007.
"I've been with the show for a year now and I feel that it'san appropriate time to pursue some exciting new opportunities that have arisen within MediaWorks, both in radio and television," said Coleman in a statement released this morning.
Coleman will be replaced by TV reporter Ali Ikram who will be co-presenting Sunrise next week. An announcement will be made regarding a new presenter "in the coming weeks".
The breakfast show has struggled in the ratings war against its rival, TV One's Breakfast, since it launched in 2007.
Ratings for Sunrise have hovered around the 20,000-30,000 mark for much of the show's existence. Breakfast regularly draws in around 140,000 viewers a day.
In August the Herald reported that programme makers were making changes to the breakfast show in a bid to improve ratings.
