MASTERTON Motorplex events organiser Bob Wilton was a happy man last week after a very successful drags meet at Hood Aerodrome.
There were good fields (153 all up) and 5000 spectators spread over Monday and Tuesday of last week. Drivers came from as far as Auckland, Tauranga and the South Island.
"It
was a good all-round points meeting," he said. And the turnout of fans was especially pleasing, topping up the club's coffers and allowing it to continue development at Hood.
There will be new lights for next meeting, and scales to weigh the cars. This will allow national records to be set in Masterton, which in turn will bring more top competitors to the track.
"Four cars ran national record times at the meeting, but they can't be recognised," said Wilton.
The next meeting, the central nationals, is on February and will feature the crowd-pleasing top alcohol cars. The season ends in March with a jet car the star turn.
