Summer in the city ... you can't lick it

Maya Sajtos made the most of a Saturday stunner with a chocolate icecream at the beach.

The 19-month-old and dad Laszlo were among thousands who headed to Mission Bay yesterday as the sun suggested summer is almost upon us. City crowds were out in force to enjoy the weather, the V8 Supercars in Pukekohe and the Taste food festival in Western Springs.

Temperatures soared into the 20s in some parts of the country. Hanmer Springs reached 29C. It was 23C in Auckland and today should be fine too. The rest of the week might not be quite as good but should stay mostly dry.
