Wairarapa College and Red Star did the business when Bidwell Cup senior men's inter-club cricket matches continued in Wairarapa over the weekend.
Damp ground conditions saw the Wairarapa College v Greytown match at Greytown shortened to 80 overs with the students winning the toss and electing to bat on apitch which had plenty in it for the bowlers.
Led by Daniel Haxton (3-26) and Aiden Crimp (3-27) the Greytown attack made it difficult for Wairarapa College to get any momentum into their innings which closed at 122.
Captain Andy Williams was the only batsman to prosper and he made 42 while a 30-run partnership for the last wicket between Jack Wakeling and Stefan Hook ensured the total moved over the three-figure mark.
Needing 123 to win in 30 overs, Greytown were always struggling but almost managed to hang on for a draw, their last wicket falling at 63 with just one over remaining to be bowled. Paul Lyttle (25) and Ben Hodder (14) were the only two batsmen to get into double figures.
Bowling for Wairarapa College Martin Reisima returned the excellent figures of 5-11 off eight overs and there was an impressive opening spell from Hook and George Littlejohn. Also coming to the party was Tane Workman with 2-12 off seven overs and he had the distinction of taking that all-important last scalp.
Red Star beat Lansdowne by four wickets at the Park Sportsground in Masterton.
Lansdowne batted first and were all out for 109 of which Alex Treseder made 44. Bowling for Red Star Jared Watt continued his impressive form with the ball by taking 4-39 and Peter Sigvertsen took 4-20. Watt was again to the fore when Red Star reached their target with four wickets to spare. He was unbeaten on 58 when the winning runs were scored.
Kuranui College first XI chalked up their third win in four matches this season when they beat Wairarapa College Colts by 90 runs.
Luke Dingle top scored with 78 - his first half-century for the first X1 - when Kuranui College batted and captain Darren Dingle made 47. The college reached 198-4 and then dismissed Wairarapa College for 108. The pick of the Kuranui bowlers was Jayden Carter with four wickets.
