Student dies during asthma attack

A 20-year-old international student died during an apparent asthma attack at a Massey University hall of residence in Palmerston North last night.

Mohd Faizal bin Ahmad Kamil, from Malaysia, had moved into the halls two days earlier.

Mr Ahmad Kamil was found unconscious in his room by students at about 7pm.

An ambulance was called and attempts were made to revive him, both by staff trained in first aid and subsequently by paramedics, without success.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and the death would be referred to the coroner.
