Everybody has at least one on their Christmas shopping list - the person who seems to have everything.
But hold off buying the navy socks or sporting biography - the Weekend Herald has some suggestions for gifts that will light up the eyes of even the most jaded consumerist.
At the expensive end, a golden tiki statue called "Kilo" could be the perfect stocking filler - for those with a lazy $125,000 to spend.
The 1kg, 14cm-tall, gold bullion piece of kiwiana was created by Robinson Designer Goldsmith (RDG).
RDG principal Ken Robinson and his twin sons Michael and David spent a year designing the tiki, and about three months hand-crafting it.
Mr Robinson said he thought Kilo would have broad appeal and was confident of finding a buyer.
"Maybe it will be an art collector, maybe it will be a bullion investor that wants more than just a bar of gold."
Any cricket fan will treasure the shirt worn by Black Caps captain Ross Taylor during the seven-run win in Hobart this week. The shirt has been signed by the team and ANZ has put it up for auction on TradeMe, with proceeds to the Starship Foundation.
For the person you're not really that keen on - the chance to have a monkey named after them.
Wellington Zoo is auctioning on Trade Me the naming rights to a pygmy marmoset born in October weighing just 14g.
Her parents are Macchu and Picchu and her brother is Cusco - but that's no reason not to name her Suzy (or John Key, as someone suggested).
People who need both hands spare in the rain - think airport baggage handlers, perhaps - will love Nubrella, "the world's first truly hands-free umbrella".
Amazon.com reviews did mention some teething problems. One said Nubrella's bulk made it impractical for public transport and business meetings. "If you open this in the house before you go outside, good luck fitting through the doorway."
Hundreds of other gifts such as anti-theft lunchbags, magazine pillowcases - "wake up every day on the cover of Time" - and a beer bottle chandelier can be found on the aptly named ThisIsWhyImBroke.com.
