Concern rising around synthetic cannabis use as police seize more of it in west Auckland
As strange as it sounds, meat is being used to buy synthetic cannabis, police say.
Waitemata Senior Sergeant Richard Thompson said stolen property, including lawnmowers and meat, were found in searches in the Ranui area recently.
He described synthetic cannabis as nothing more than "a backyard concoction" of toxic poisons.
"The reality is that a lot of stuff that is being sold out there at the moment is no more than a backyard concoction that is being packaged up and sold on the premise that it's synthetic cannabis.
"Honestly, it's a form of Russian roulette. This stuff can kill you and at the very least cause irreparable damage to your body."
Great work by our Waitakere staff who seized a significant amount of synthetic cannabis from an address in Ranui last week.
A man was arrested and is appearing before the courts - one of several arrests we've made in the area recently around synthetic cannabis.
As Senior Sergeant Richard Thompson explains, we are determined to do everything in our power to get this drug off our streets - but we also need your help.
If you know anyone who is making or supplying synthetic cannabis, then contact your local Police station or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. You can also send us a private Facebook message.
We also urge users to stop smoking synthetic cannabis due to the dangers and risk it can cause. If you need help, then please contact the Alcohol Drug Helpline NZ
