Rescue helicopters are responding to a serious four-vehicle crash west of Tekapo this evening.
The crash happened about 7pm on State Highway 8 between Tekapo Powerhouse Road and Braemar Road.
Reports indicate that three people have serious injuries, while another person has moderate injuries. Three rescue helicopters have been deployedto the crash.
Hato Hone St John said the helicopters, along with a road manager, rapid response vehicle, prime doctor, local first responder and three ambulances, were called to the scene about 7pm.
The New Zealand Transport Agency said the road is now blocked.

Police said the highway is expected to be closed for some time, and they are asking motorists to postpone travel if possible, or expect delays.
