Foxton, Horowhenua crash: Person dead after vehicle reportedly strikes horse

One person is dead and two others are seriously injured after a vehicle allegedly struck a horse on State Highway 1 in the Horowhenua District.

Emergency services are in the town of Foxton, near the intersection with Totara Park Rd, after receiving multiple calls at 7.30pm.

The road is blocked by the incident and is expected to stay closed for several hours.

Motorists are advised to follow the diversions in place and expect delays.

Locals on social media alleged the incident involved a horse and a vehicle.

The serious crash unit has been advised and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are under way.
