The Warehouse worker was not hurt in the incident.
A forensic scene examination was carried out today and police said enquiries were ongoing.
The busy store was open for business today on Auckland Anniversary Day, but staff were being tight-lipped about the incident.
Enquiries were referred to head office.
"We're assisting police with their enquiries but are focused on taking care of our team member and their family, ensuring they recover well from this incident," Warehouse spokeswoman Julia Bell said.
"We'll release more details when it is appropriate to do so."
