Grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles from across Wairarapa have won the praise of St Teresa's School principal Karolina Surynt-Tapiki.
Mrs Surynt-Tapiki said she was overwhelmed by the support showered on the Featherston school at the Inspiring Women fundraiser held at the Tarureka Estate earlier this month.
She thanked Martinborough bakerand author Alice Arndell, who made the top three on the televised New Zealand's Hottest Home Baker show, and award-winning Featherston photographer Esther Bunning for appearing as key speakers.
A fashion parade and sale of donated label clothing was held as well, which also was a triumph for the school coffers.
Mrs Surynt-Tapiki said she was grateful as well to Tarureka Estate owner Helen Forlong for the use of the premises for the charity event, which had drawn support from across the region.
"We had so much support from the whole community. There were grandparents, parents, aunties and uncles from right across Wairarapa. It was fantastic," she said.
"We really do have a far bigger family than we knew."
Mrs Surynt-Tapiki said the Friends of St Teresa's Association (FOSTA) had put in so much hard work to make a success of the Inspiring Women fundraiser and already there were plans afoot to hold a similar event in future.
"It was a core group of FOSTA mums who really made it happen and all I can do is offer our deep thanks to everyone," she said.
"We now feel like we have something we can do again, to offer an opportunity to get women together and to keep on inspiring women. Watch this space for the next one. "
