Spill cleared after SH1 fuel tanker crash

A crashed fuel tanker leaking its load forced the closure of State Highway One south of Whangarei this afternoon.

Police said the tanker collided with a car at Otaika about 4pm.

The crash was not serious but the leaking fuel created a road hazard.

Traffic had earlier been diverted but police said the spill had been cleared about 5.30pm.
