Former Masterton SPCA chairwoman Val Ball is co-ordinating local efforts for the annual SPCA Cupcake Day on August 24, despite there being no functioning SPCA in Wairarapa.
The SPCA closed on May 15, with its lone inspector pulled shortly afterwards.
Mrs Ball said any funds raised would go towards funding
a SPCA inspector's position in Wairarapa.
"We've got a donation coming from Breadcraft," she said. "I'm canvassing for cupcakes to sell; it would be great for the schools to take it up."
Cupcakes are baked and sold, with money going towards sick or injured animals.
