Southern motorway open again after 12-car pile-up

2 people have been seriously hurt in a 12-car pile-up on Auckland's southern motorway, which was closed as a result but began reopening at 2.10pm and is now fully open again.

The crash happened under the Panama Road overbridge between the Mt Wellington Highway and Otahuhu.


While traffic was being diverted off the motorway there was considerable congestion on all roads in the area.

Eyewitnesses report some cars flipped on to their roofs, trapping passengers inside.
