A police spokesperson said officers were called to Southern Cross Campus on Buckland Rd, Māngere, about 3.10pm after reports of an unknown group hanging around the school gates.
“This group has disrupted students attempting to leave the grounds and blocked vehicle access, causing congestion on the road,” the spokesperson said.
“No disorder was noted, however, the school made the decision to go into a self-initiated lockdown.
“Police have remained at the school while the lockdown was lifted and ensured students were able to leave safely.”
One person told the Herald the lockdown was lifted after 25 minutes and students left the school without any threats.
“Police dispersed a family who were aggrieved by a fight between two students. Normal disciplinary process had occurred,” he said.
