Smashing time

Mike Jackson in action at the Wairarapa closed tennis championships at the Masterton Tennis Centre last weekend. He partnered his Masterton clubmate Geoff McKay and they got through to the final where they were beaten 6-4, 6-3 by Matt Spooner and Steve Hurley. Jackson, McKay and Hurley will all be part of a Masterton side which should prove too strong for Martinborough in their Wairarapa regional one match at Martinborough tomorrow.In the other regional one fixture Carterton, who will have Spooner as their spearhead, will be at home to Opaki in what should be a closely-contested encounter.
