Small start in quest for one million donations

A woman's attempt to raise $1 million to buy a house has got off to a solid start.

Emma Taylor has launched an ambitious GiveaLittle page asking one million people to give her $1 each.

The Palmerston North mum of two young boys is not holding her breath - "but stranger things have happened".

She wants the money to buy her family their first home.

As at this afternoon $203 had been donated by 80 donors, with the highest single donation being $10.

Ms Taylor's efforts to raise the money have generally been well received with the donors leaving messages of support.

One comment said: "Go you!! It's so hard to buy property in this market, goon on you for trying to do it a different way. I wish you all the best!"

Another commented: "This is a dollar from my 17 year old son who thought yours was a great idea but was concerned how you were going to get around all the million people to pick up all the dollars.!!!! Arnt sons great! Best of luck to you and your sons Emma!"

Ms Taylor said she would keep the page live for six months and has asked that each donation be limited to $1.

"I just want to see if it is possible and if it all goes well we will have a house."
