'Slightly damaging' Bay of Plenty quake

An earthquake near Whakatane has been reported as "slightly damaging".

The quake measured 4.1 on the Richter scale and hit last night at 11.29.

The quake had a focal depth of 5km and struck 10km south of Whakatane.

Over 130 homes and businesses reported feeling the quake on the GNS website by 8.30am today.

One person in Taneatua reported the quake as "slightly damaging".
