Slice of Bay of Islands luxury for $12m

For sale: Coastal property, 130ha, 22 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, indoor swimming pool, tennis court and a view. Chattels: a Robinson R44 Raven-2 helicopter, a Maserati Gran Turismo S and a bunch of farm equipment.

If you have a spare $12 millon and fancy investing in a seaside bach, then the owner of Moojebing Park Estate in the Bay of Islands wants to hear from you.

But you'd better be quick: the property has been on the market a week and already four prospective buyers - two from New Zealand and two from overseas - have been shown through.

Max Broughton, an Australian who made his fortune selling mining equipment in Perth, bought the property in the early 1990s and named it Moojebing, the Aboriginal word for "peace".

Broughton ran several successful businesses from the estate: renting the property's four houses to holidaymakers, hosting weddings and ferrying people between the Bay of Islands and Britomart, Auckland, in the helicopter.

But now he wants to travel the world - so everything must go.

"The place is too big for just me, it needs to have a family in it," he said.

"I'm looking at doing more travel and doing some business back in Australia."

Broughton is downsizing: he intends to buy a smaller place in the Bay of Islands.
