Skoda's newest Superb joins the outgoing car as one of New Zealand's best-kept secrets. The brand's part of the VW family, which means impressive diesel powerplants and great build quality.
The Superb, better looking than its pictures suggest, adds an unusual double-hinged boot lid that sounds likea gimmick but works well.
Its conventional sedan boot opens for normal loads, but anything extra and an additional catch sees the rear screen lift as well to create a truly capacious opening.
As for the cabin, the already roomy rear's now bigger still. Forget basketball players, you could just about hold a party in there.
It's a shame the Skoda name still puts people off. Roomy, smart, loaded with goodies (nine airbags, parking sensors, touch-screen stereo and more) and costing less than 60 grand, this car is good value.
We are looking forward to see if its on-road performance is as excellent an experience of the outgoing car and as our showroom explorations have suggested.
