Sixteen-year-old girl charged with arson

A 16-year-old girl has been charged with arson following a fire at the Child Youth and Family offices in Levin at the weekend.

Police believe the fire was set in the main reception area of the offices at the Kent and Little Building, just before 2am on Sunday.

Detective Constable Marianne Whitfield says the fire has caused great upheaval to the companies who are based within the building, and it will have a knock-on effect to the community due to the valuable services offered from the premises.

Ms Whitfield says the firm estimates the value of the damage will run into the hundreds of thousands.
