Six people were injured when a 4WD slid off the road in icy conditions and crashed into a bank this morning.
The crash happened near Rai Valley, about 50km east of Nelson, around 6am.
St John paramedics treated the injured at the scene but two were in serious enough condition to be airlifted to Nelson hospital by the Summit Rescue helicopter.
A 50-year-old Nelson man was in Nelson Hospital in a serious but stable condition with chest, abdomen and back injuries, St John team manager Jon Leech said.
