Six albatrosses lost from Otago Peninsula colony

Three chicks have died and three adult male albatrosses have failed to return to the Taiaroa Head colony on the Otago Peninsula.

Conservation Department area manager Robin Thomas said the loss could have lasting consequences for the colony's breeding programme.

Nine young birds remain, giving the colony close to a normal breeding season.
