Sinbin for seagull antics

Police have slammed the "mind-boggling" cruelty of several young men who tossed an injured seagull round like a rugby ball in Dunedin early yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said the seagull had been clipped by a passing car. A "group of drunken males" reportedly seized the bird and threw it from one to another.

Onlookers intervened, taking the seagull to the central police station. It has been handed over to the SPCA.
