A reader writes: "I would like to 'commend' the young policeman for his helpfulness and compassion when we were hurrying to the aid of our diabetic daughter at 10.30 on Tuesday night, after she called tosay she was home alone and had been vomiting violently for two hours. We were denied car access to the no-exit street where she lives because roadblocks had been placed at the two closest intersections on the road either side of the street we were trying to reach. We were told that if we had concerns, an ambulance should have been called, and the policeman then suggested we park our car and walk the remaining 250 metres, in the dark, which we did. Apparently there had been a serious single-vehicle accident two hours earlier involving a motorcycle, and the serious crash investigation unit were busy investigating and photographing the spot where it occurred, which was between our daughter's street and the next intersection, not obstructing access to her street. We observed cars being allowed to exit the roadblock, yet we were turned away."
It's snowing stolen ski gear out West
Two sets of snow skis in a red and black bag, believed to be stolen property, were found yesterday morning concealed in a small bush/garden area near the rear of the New Lynn Community Centre car park in Totara Ave, New Lynn. The recovered gear comprised one set of green and black F1 Schneewalzer skis, one set of black and red Dynamic VR20 skis, one set of poles, and a red and black Shinsegai nylon ski bag.
