Whether it's a DIY Brazilian wax or a botched attempt at "manscaping", homegrown efforts to remove the "hair down there"' are sending more people to hospital emergency departments. Pubic hair grooming injuries jumped five-fold between 2002 and 2010, according to a recent analysis of ER visits by scientists at the University of California, San Francisco. Injuries included cuts, burns, gashes, rashes and other unpleasant outcomes that required emergency medical attention, said Dr Allison Glass. "We actually found that 3 per cent of all genitourinary injuries were related to grooming practices." Nearly 57 per cent of the injuries were to women, but 43 per cent affected men. Shaving razors were the culprit in 83 per cent of the injuries, with cuts being the most common result. Scissors were used in nearly 22 per cent of injuries, and hot wax led to 1.4 per cent of the harm.The accounts of the reported injuries would make anyone squirm. Suffice to say that the 17-year-old boy who picked up a razor after smoking marijuana now understands that was a bad idea. (Source: NBC News)
Nice car, how about the rego?
"Inspired by recent discussion, we decided to play 'Spot the Rego' as we walked past the car park at Milford Beach," says Chris of Rothesay Bay. "Out of 30 cars, 7 had expired regos, including one dated 2011. So about a quarter of the cars in our 'survey' were illegal. It isn't exactly an impoverished area - most of the cars were less than 10 years old - so what's the story?"

"I know there are much more important things going on in the world," says Nicky, "but the latest KFC quarter pack ad bugs me. The guys walk up to the counter and say, 'I'll have a quarter pack'. Would it kill them to say please? It just bugs me. Have we really got to the point where basic manners have gone out the door?"
QR code a big ask
Ajay spotted a billboard on the side of the Southern Motorway, next to the Ellerslie on-ramp, while driving south. It has a giant QR code and the url for Stevenson Concrete. "How is it possible to scan the code while on the motorway, driving at high speeds?" he asks.
Historical howler a century out
"My family visited the recently opened Hobsonville Ferry Terminal on Waitangi Day," writes Lyn. "There are some 10 or so very informative boards telling people about the area as you walk down to the ferry. One of these boards has a photograph of Governor Hobson with a synopsis explaining who he was. But the portrait says it was from 1913 and that he became the first Governor of NZ in 1940! The dates should be 1813 and 1840 respectively. Please get this dreadful mistake fixed."
