medal on eBay and gave the $17,101 it earned to victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Polish swimmer Otylia Jedrzejczak made it clear before the 2004 Athens Games that any golds she won would be donated to charity. Her 200m butterfly medal went for more than $80,000 and benefited a Polish charity that helps kids with leukaemia. "I don't need the medal to remember," she said. "I know I'm the Olympic champion. That's in my heart." And US ice hockey star Mark Wells sold his 1980 gold to help pay for medical costs related to a rare genetic disease that damaged his spinal cord.
