Regarding talk of All Black supporters giving up sex during the World Cup to support the team, Peter says: "We were discussing this in the staffroom yesterday morning. A young colleague raised a few eyebrows when he blurted out, 'I would happily sacrifice a few minutes of pleasure to see them succeed'. There was a general feeling of sympathy for his girlfriend. Meanwhile, a much older colleague who has been married many years, muttered, 'if All Black success depended on my abstinence from sex, they should have won at least the last three tournaments'."

Don't fall about laughing

Falls are the biggest cause of injuries in the home, according to an email from ACC. "More than 7600 people were injured falling out of bed last year. About 1600 people were injured last year by tripping over a dog compared with about 700 falls involving a cat. Over 180 people were injured falling over while putting out the rubbish or recycling." ACC estimates alcohol is a contributing factor in nearly a quarter of all claims.

Happy to rain on Cup parade

Some years ago, a good-humoured bar manager tried the same tactic, only to be greeted the next day by the local town soak, Cyril (82), who produced two urns containing his late Mum and Dad and drank heartily and for free for about a week until the bar manager conceded defeat and withdrew the promotion."
