Julie Fairey, chair of the Puketapapa Local Board, has been walking along a section of Mt Albert Rd in Three Kings a lot recently and noticed a declaration of love in the footpath opposite St Therese School. Scratched in the concrete is "Nicola 4 Glen". "Nearby work is under way to replace and widen the footpaths and it is just a matter of time before this heartfelt etching disappears forever," she writes. "I'd love it if you could help me find out whatever happened to Nicola and Glen. Did they make it? Is it a tragic love story? Or maybe ... unrequited lust? It would be lovely to know before the pavement gets turned into dust."

At one with nature and a good book

Ross writes: "Some of the toilets in the NZ back-country have stunning views. At one of my favourites you could contemplate the river and the wide valley vista from the open door. No frogs under the seat to deliver an unexpected surprise, but you had to kick the privy three times hard with your boot before sitting down to ensure you didn't have blowflies escaping between your legs while you relaxed with your novel."
