Show of support for team

A flag is flapping above the Wairarapa Times-Age building in support of the Hurricanes match tonight.

The team is playing against the Crusaders at Westpac Stadium.

Meanwhile, the flagpole carries a bit of history.

In 2008 someone stole the official Times-Age flag, replacing it with a pair of camo trousers left on the upstairs balcony.

It appears the town is deeply entrenched in rugby.

Last year the Wairarapa Bush flag was flying in the breeze above the building in support of the local team.

Other than that the flagpole hasn't be used much in recent years. The rope in the pulley system has been missing.

But that has all changed with a flag occupying pride of place for the game tonight.

The rope has been replaced using a cherry picker and the flag in place.

Colin Oldfield of Forsyth Morison, which occupies the top floor of the building, said it was in fitting with the building to have the flagpole operational.

"The flagpole is there so it might as well be used," he said.
