"The whole night is about supporting all those women who have supported husbands and family," he said.
"Their contribution is always appreciated, but usually not recognised."
Another Ladies Drought Shout with Ruth Pretty will take place at Pahiatua next Tuesday, with 400 places.
Farmer Elise Stolte, of Carterton, said she felt very appreciated, actually.
"We're partners on farms, we've got a big role."
Another farmer, Linda Macrae, of Gladstone, said it was a nice idea for women.
"I'm here to spend time with my daughters."
