A community on the outskirts of Christchurch is on high alert after a vicious dog attack killed more than 20 sheep over the weekend.
Joshua Olykan said he arrived at his parents' property in Hei Hei on Saturday morning to find all their sheep - almost all of them inlamb - dead or badly injured.
Neighbouring properties were also targeted.
Mr Olykan was anxious for the dogs to be caught before they caused more damage to people or property.
He said it would have been obvious to dog owners if their animal was involved, as they would have been covered in blood on Saturday morning.
