A sharp earthquake rattled the East Coast overnight.
The 4.8-magnitude tremor struck at 1.51am, GNS Science reported.
It was centred 30km west of Tolaga Bay and was 35km deep.
The quake was felt as far as the top of the South Island, GNS said.
