SH1 Timaru crash: Two people dead, drivers told to expect long delays

Emergency services responded to a crash on State Highway 1 near Timaru.

Two people have died following a crash between a truck and car on State Highway 1, near Timaru.

Emergency services were called to the crash about 5.10pm close to the Brosnan Rd intersection.

“Sadly, two people died at the scene, while one person was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition,” police said.

“The Serious Crash Unit is in attendance and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing. The road is expected to remain closed until later tonight.”

NZTA said the Hedley Rd intersection would remain closed for several hours and motorists should follow detours.
