Sexual predator still on the loose

Police are still hunting Richard Clarence Hunia, a man they say is a dangerous sexual predator fixated on Asian women.

Hunia is wanted for a sexual attack on a 24-year-old Chinese woman on Saturday.

The 41-year-old, who is using the alias Joe Jones, lured the woman to his New Lynn flat through a personal advertisement in a Chinese language newspaper. She had been in New Zealand only two weeks.

Police have named Hunia and released his photograph in a bid to catch him and to alert women.

Police said the woman was lucky to escape from Hunia's room after he beat her about the head and threatened to kill her if she did not perform oral sex.

Officers found pornographic videos and magazines of Asian women in Hunia's room.

Henderson Detective Constable Mike Mackenzie urged victims of similar sex attacks to come forward.
