The wife of a former Nelson chiropractor deregistered for having sex with two patients says the women were willing participants and then "played the victim".
Michael John Rudin was found guilty of professional misconduct in December by the Chiropractic Board, which deregistered him for five years and ordered him to have
counselling and treatment.
Board chairman Julian White said on Monday that at least 12 complaints had now been laid against Rudin by Nelson patients.
The Health and Disability Commissioner was still investigating some of the complaints, said Mr White.
But Chloe Rudin said her husband had been treated unfairly and the couple had not been given the chance to comment before reports about the case were published at the weekend.
She and her husband had an open relationship and were free to explore intimacy with other people.
The two women had "willingly entered into" the relationships and then "decided to play the victim" when they were unable to keep Rudin as a lover, she said.
"I'm really angry with the system that supports totally empowered people and treats them as victims and doesn't allow women to make their own decisions around sex."
