Serious injuries for crash woman

A 42-year-old woman who crossed the centre line on her motorcycle near Featherston and collided with an oncoming vehicle on Saturday is in a stable condition in the intensive care unit of Wellington Hospital, a hospital spokesman confirmed yesterday.

The Wellington woman was heading south toward Wellington on Saturday afternoon when she crashed into a vehicle just after 1pm.

She was flown to Wellington Hospital with serious injuries which included serious fractures to her lower and upper body.

The crash happened on State Highway 2 at the base of the Rimutaka Hill.

A Wairarapa police spokesman said the woman had crossed the centre line.

She was riding a 250cc Suzuki motorcycle which was damaged in the crash.

The road was reduced to one lane and monitored by Fulton Hogan.

Police had left the scene about 5pm and the road later was re-opened.

Featherston Fire Brigade, ambulance services and the serious crash unit from Wellington also attended the scene.

Speaking yesterday evening the hospital spokesman said the woman had been moved into a ward.
