A 20-year-old man suffered serious head injuries in an incident police say involved a vehicle.

Nelson police said the incident occurred about 11pm in Headingly Lane, near Richmond.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Johnston said police were keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.

Police were unable to provide any more information on the nature of the incident.
