Serious crash near Taupō leaves seven injured, two critical

Emergency services are rushing to a serious crash near Taupō, which has left seven people injured, including two in a critical condition.

The serious crash occurred at the intersection of Broadlands Rd and Off Rd Highway near Taupō.

The crash involved two cars and was reported to police at 3.15pm this afternoon.

Hato Hone St John was notified of the accident and responded with three helicopters, five ambulances, one manager, and one clinical support vehicle.

St John crews assessed and treated two patients in critical condition who were airlifted to Waikato Hospital.

Another patient is in a serious condition and was airlifted to Rotorua Hospital.

Three other patients were in a moderate condition and were transported to Taupō Hospital.

The final patient was in a minor condition and was treated at the scene, St John said.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and to take alternative routes where possible, as the road is likely to be blocked for some time, a police spokesperson said.
