Person killed in car and truck crash, section of SH1 reopens between Tokoroa and Taupō

State Highway 1 has reopened following a fatal crash between Tokoroa and Taupō.

Emergency services were called to the crash between a truck and a car near Humphrey Rd, between Ongaroto Rd and SH30, around 11.20pm.

“One person was located deceased at the scene,” police said.

“One other person received serious injuries and was transported to hospital.”

The road was closed around midnight and had now reopened under a temporary speed limit, NZ Transport Agency said.

The road reopened about 10am.

Firefighters were called to the crash at 11.24pm, Fire and Emergency northern shift manager Garreth Lewis said.

Three fire engines and two support vehicles responded, with firefighters assisting police and ambulance.
