Secret SIS files to be made public

Previously secret SIS files are about to be made public.

Prime Minister Helen Clark, who is also the Minister for the Secret Intelligence Service, says Police Special Branch files on the 1951 waterfront strike will be transferred to Archives New Zealand.

The files comprise a unique record of the country's most significant and confrontational industrial dispute.

Miss Clark says the transfer is part of the SIS meeting its obligations under the 2005 Public Records Act.
