Second serious crash closes another southern highway

A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a bridge crash, leaving a second key West Coast highway is closed today.

Police say the accident happened on Cobden Bridge in Greymouth after a car and motorbike collided.

It comes a few hours after a truck burst into flames near Boyle River on Lewis Pass this morning, closing the highway to traffic in both directions.

The rider was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

State Highway 6 between Westport to Greymouth is now closed.

Other passes are open but chains are vital to cope with the icy conditions.
