Detective Inspector Long has confirmed that Mr Lochhead suffered a stab wound, and said police recovered a knife from the scene where the incident is believed to have occurred.
Police received a positive response to calls for information about people hitchhiking between Rangiora and Christchurch, he said. One person came forward to advise that they had offered a ride to one of the men who has subsequently been charged.
