Search underway for missing man in Waikato

A search is underway for a 67-year-old who is missing in Waikato.

Frederick "Rick" Hayward was last seen leaving his Hamilton home in Thames Street about 5pm on Monday night, with the intention of travelling to Raglan, Senior Constable Bruce Bogun said.

Mr Hayward's car was found on Old Mountain Road, between Raglan and Hamilton yesterday evening.

"Waikato Land Search and Rescue teams have been searching bush and farm land around the area of Old Mountain Road throughout the night," Mr Bogun said.

Mr Hayward was described as a slim Caucasian, about 1.75m tall with short white/grey hair.

He was last seen wearing a brown cotton leather-look jacket, tan pants and a light khaki green cap.

"The search effort will be reinforced but fresh search teams and the police eagle helicopter (this) morning."
