Screen legend's Bentley steals limelight at auction

The S1 Continental attracted strong bidding.

A rare 1955 Bentley S1 Continental Park Ward Coupe, originally owned by screen legend Gary Cooper, has sold for $A135,000 ($166,000) at auction in Sydney.

The 50-year-old Continental, fitted with power steering and air conditioning, was eagerly sought after by both floor and telephone bidders.

Classic American cars also fared well. A restored left-hand-drive 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air two-door coupe finished in white over turquoise sold for A$56,000.

A 1996 Ford Mustang GT convertible brought A$43,500 and a 1960 Chrysler New Yorker two-door coupe fetched A$34,000.
