Schooner's site for posh hotel

The Schooner tavern building on Auckland's waterfront could soon be a thing of the past.

Property development company Bluewater wants to build an 11-storey hotel featuring a "maritime" theme at the Britomart precinct.

The 150-room, five-star hotel would incorporate the Altrans and Quay buildings.

Matthew Cockram, of the Britomart advisory board, told city councillors the general theme of the face of the hotel would be "maritime, reflecting the movement of the ocean".
