The way Computerland manages ANZ desktops and servers is saving the bank up to $10 million a year in direct costs, says an assessment by IT research firm Gartner.
ANZ New Zealand chief operating officer Colin MacDonald said Computerland's three-year contract was almost over, so the bank called
in Gartner to measure outcomes.
"We had a feeling internally the relationship was working well, but we were surprised at how well we were doing," Mr MacDonald said.
Gartner measured ANZ against a group of similarly complex banking and finance organisations from the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and North America.
It found that ANZ rated up to 72 per cent better in cost savings and efficiency than its peers.
The study covered 2750 of ANZ's desktop PC and internal server users and the support systems provided by Computerland.
The bank's total cost per desktop was on average 28.4 per cent more efficient than the peer group, giving savings of $3623 a year for each user, or nearly $10 million in total direct costs.
Help-desk services, which are all run by Computerland, cost the bank 72 per cent less.
