Sacked school principal will not face porn charge

Police will not prosecute an Auckland North Shore school principal who was sacked for accessing pornography on his work computer.

Michael Wilks, principal of Northcote Intermediate, was dismissed on July 8 by the board of trustees after pornographic material was found on his computer during routine maintenance.

Police and the board refuse to specify the nature of the material.

Mr Wilks, aged 66, had been at Northcote Intermediate for more than a decade.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby said today the Takapuna police had completed an investigation under the Films, Videos and Publications Classifications Act.

"After seeking legal advice no criminal charges will be laid, although a person has been warned about possession of objectionable material."
