Emergency services and contractors were called in to deal with a ruptured gas main near a busy intersection in a west Auckland suburb.
Police said the main, situated near the railway line at the intersection of Totara and Rankin Avenues in New Lynn, was believed to have been broken by an excavator. The leak has since been repaired.
Some shops and buildings near the leak site were evacuated and train movements were stopped as a precaution.
